Best Read of the Month: The Loney By Andrew Michael Hurley
Think famous five meets slithering creatures. Think creepy with an urban edge to it’s blade. The Loney is a horror novel, which has already received plaudits from Stephen King and writers of his standard. It was first published last year but has just been rediscovered as a Modern classic. It’s set in 1976, the story revolves around a family’s visit to their annual vacation home which is as the book describes it “on an utterly useless bit of English coast”. What transpires there and the mysteries surrounding this windswept home is what makes The Loney a compelling read… perhaps not at night though. As this is a novel of the unsaid, for more then this; read it! All Is Not Forgotten by Wendy Walker A powerful story about a dramatic event that changes the lives of a family as they know it. The novel revolves around the assault of a young girl and the struggle of her parents to bring the monster that did this to her to justice. Here Comes The Sun by Nicole Dennis-Benn A novel about women, liberty & sexuality, set in the Jamaican life and dialect it tells a tale about one woman’s fight for survival.On the nightstand:
