How did you get in the field of styling / makeup artistry?
As clichéd as it may sound, I have been a fashion freak since I was very young. Like other interests this trait never faded from my personality. By the time I was in my teens I would be critical about who wore what and how adding or taking something from it could make it look so much different. My first victims were my sisters and they still hold it against me!
What was your first proper job in the media world?
I joined Munib Nawaz as a creative director and after that one thing lead to another and I got here.
What fashion advice would you give to an average person?
Call it my job or my nature; I have all types of clients. So there is nothing average about anyone. They are all gorgeous in their own way. I usually tell them that “Dressing up should be a joyful, fun experience for you, for some people it’s an easy job and for others it’s a chore. So play out of your zone but make sure you are comfortable, than you will stand out and shine.
What is the biggest misconception people have about your field?
Hmmm… I don’t get to interact much with people outside of our industry because of the nature of my work. So I really don’t know an outsider’s perspective on it. What I know is that I’m around brilliantly creative people, who are very respectful of women and watch over us like family.
Which celebrities have you loved working with so far?
This is a tricky question as I have been in the field long enough and if I’ll forget somebody than I’ll be super upset. It’s always fun no matter who you are working with, they trust you with the look you have made for them and happily take the plunge. I have already worked with Shaan, Fawad khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Shoaib Malik, Ali Zafar, Shahid Afridi, Bilal Ashraf, Shahzad Roy, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ahsan Khan, Moamar Rana, Danish Taimoor, Fahad Mustufa and Javed Sheikh, And in their counterparts, I have dressed Mahira Khan, Saniya Mirza, Mawra, Urwa, Ayeza Danish, Ayesha Khan, Mehwish Hayat, Maya Ali, Sarwat Gillani, Mohib Mirza, Noor, Resham, Momal Shaikh, Mansha Pasha, Aminah Sheikh and Saima Jee.
What is your all-time favorite look that you created?
*Giggles* I absolutely love my work, that said I’m also always critical of my work too. It’s hard to be a perfectionist. I can’t settle unless I’m 100% sure. So all my work is the best in that given experience and stage of time.
If you could choose a celebrity wardrobe to shop for, whose would it be and why?
As a stylist you can’t settle with one celebrity, the list can be endless as you want to work on different looks for different people.
If you could choose any personality from Pakistan to give a makeover, who would it be and why?
I grew up watching amazingly dressed people in Pakistan. Maybe I would want to try my childhood year’s celebrities. Someone like Babra Sharif, I have always seen her dressed so properly so it’ll be a challenge I’d like to give myself.
Which trends do you want to see disappear?
Mom jeans – I can’t handle bad jeans choices people make. Also, OOT Shaadi looks on red carpet.
