Some of us yearn for new content constantly and there are those that like classics – we are here for those who like to take a peek back at the past – when shows had a different feel, dialogue, humour and dress sense – even the music was fantastic!
Here are our 5 favourite and highly recommended throwback shows on Netflix for you:
Gilmore Girls: a show which primarily focused on a mother daughter relationship that we can all relate to at some point or another, filled with comedy and of course a bit of drama. A story about a family, social class differences, elite society, innocent young love, family, disappointment, an important highlight on education, and from a time before cell phones made their mark on the world.
Friends: this is a no brainer! You can watch this show over and over and over again and still laugh straight from your belly like its the first time you’re watching it! A sitcom about the dynamic between group of six friends that takes you through their lives – the ups and downs, laughs and tears – and most importantly, the unassuming comments that you or I pass in our daily lives which makes this so relatable!
Fresh Prince of Bel Air: A hilarious American sitcom that originally aired in 1990 and went on for 6 wonderful years. The show stars Will Smith as a fictionalized version of himself, a street-smart teenager from West Philadelphia who is sent to move in with his wealthy uncle and aunt in their Bel Air mansion after getting into a fight in his hometown where his working class background ends up clashing in various humorous ways with the upper class world of his uncle Phil, aunt Vivian and his cousins: Hilary, Carlton, and Ashley.
Full House: A family show about widowed father Danny Tanner played by Bob Saget who enlists his brother-in-law Jesse, a rock musician (played by heart throb John Stamos) and best friend Joey Gladstone, a stand up comic, to help raise his three daughters, D.J., Stephanie and Michelle (played by the infamous Olsen twins, Ashley and Mary Kate) in his San Francisco home. Over time, the three men, as well as the children, bond and become closer to one another. The show aired in 1987 and went on until 1995!
Jeopardy!: A game show that won 33 Day Time Emmy Awards, the show features a quiz competition in which contestants are presented with general knowledge clues in the form of answers, and must phrase their responses in the form of questions (Its not as confusing as it sounds trust us – its so much fun!). The clues cover a wide variety of topics, including history, current events, sciences, the arts, popular culture, literature and languages. The show aired in 1964 and is still on going – and one of our favourites!
Happy surfing to a nostalgic era!
