A common South Asian problem is hair loss, hair fall and hair thinning. Okay, that’s more than one common problem, but hey! – We found a solution that has been tried and tested for years! No joke, we have suffered the baldness that every woman fears and have combated it too!
Two words – castor oil.
We know that eating healthy fats, popping vitamins and massaging your scalp can make hair grow a bit faster and is overall something to practice. In fact, our dermatologist was extremely frank and stated, “Eat well and sleep early – no amount of treatment from PRP to pills will give you the result a good nights’ sleep will.” (starting with 10pm!)
Now all of the obvious aside, we personally opted for castor oil after trying everything under the sun- and we mean everything. Here’s what we personally found: it strengthen strands, prevents bacterial overgrowth, it provides your scalp with the vitamins and minerals it needs to grow more quickly, and new hair grows successfully – and thick strands too!
Also, guess what? The ingredient most hair growth serums have in common? Castor oil. We’ve used it to help grow long lashes and fuller eyebrows for ages so why not hair too?
Unlike other oils, castor oil is composed of a powerful mix of proteins, vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants. Rich in ricinoleic acid, castor oil balances the skin’s and scalp’s pH to foster better hair growth. Also, it contains omega-6 and 9 fatty acids and vitamin E that help prevent hair loss by strengthening the hair root at the scalp.
And because castor oil is antibacterial and anti-fungal, it’s amazing for treating scalp infections and dandruff. While applying it to the scalp helps hair grow faster, applying it to the middle and ends of your locks strengthens the follicles themselves, thus preventing breakage and taming split ends.
Remember, a little goes a long way! Yes, it is thicker but this isn’t an oil you need to drench your hair in. Take an amount the size of a nickel or two and massage it into your scalp leaving it for 45 minutes to an hour – at least 2 to 3 times a week. Some people opt for leaving oil overnight (We don’t have the time or patience for that but hey, if it works for you, try it!)
