The SHC (Sindh High Court) has rejected the petition filed for holding congregations for Friday prayer, stating the provincial government’s firm stance towards preventing further spread of the virus as ample justification.
As people have taken to protest the banning of religious mass-congregation at the Mosque, there are in fact 3-5 people allowed to attend Friday prayers at the Masjid. Many against the social distance have argued that prayer is a strengthening force but the government has been true to their decision to try their best and prevent further outbreaks as Pakistan’s number of cases has increased to 4,265 as of Friday, 10th April.
Additional Advocate General Jawad Dero has said, “Sindh government did not ban Friday prayers, it directed lowering of population in religious gatherings.” It is clear that the practice itself is not banned but people are requested to perform their prayers at home for the safety of themselves and those around them in the nation.
