We put together a list of some classic viewing to inspire you this Women's Day.

International Women’s Day celebrates the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women within one’s own country as well as women around the world. It is meant to bring attention to the inequality and injustice faced by women.

We put together a list of some classic viewing to inspire you this Women’s Day.

Motorcycle Girl

This Pakistani movie is about an ambitious woman who goes through life being told she needs male validation. She crushes on a co-worker who turns out to be a jerk, only to be forced to get engaged to an even bigger one. She is shown forcing her way through life by pushing for her father’s dream of exploring the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Shown in the movie are challenges that every woman faces in our patriarchal society.

Bend it like Beckham

The story revolves around two girls from different cultures facing the same issues. Keira Knightly and Parminder Nagra take charge of their lives. They defy social expectations and their parents to pursue their dreams - of becoming professional football players. Their parents on the other hand want them to get married and settle down.

Queen

Queen is an Indian movie about a woman who is dependent on other people for happiness and ends up heartbroken. Played by Kangana Ranaut, Queen sets off into the world on a quest to find herself. Along the way she learns that happiness is an inside job.

Legally Blonde

The Hollywood movie Legally Blonde was ahead of its time with Reese Witherspoon as the main character on a journey to prove to the world that it’s alright to be different. She’s seen as a dumb blonde but goes on to prove that looks and a different personality is anything but less intelligent.

This in our opinion may be one of the best ways we can spend our women’s day, appreciating women the way they are meant to be appreciated. Happy International Women’s Day!
