The aroma of freshly popped popcorn, the rumble of excitement in the air, the cold drinks and the discussion about the movie after watching it till you get all the way home are reasons why we all love the cinema experience. Even though most of us won’t have enjoyed the experience for quite some time now, that doesn’t mean that blockbusters have altogether stopped being released.
Cruella – 28th May
The film acts as a prequel to the film “101 Dalmatians” and follows the young Cruella De Vil. Emma Stone stars as Cruella who is a young fashion designer that develops a mania for Dalmatian furs. For all those who spent hours of their childhood watching the original film, this should be something to get excited about.
F9 – 25th June
The Fast and Furious Franchise has returned once again to satisfy the cravings of all lovers of speed, cars, action and… John Cena. The world-famous wrestler will be playing the brother of protagonist Dom Toretto. We can only hope Cena allows us to see him in this movie because it isn’t one were willing to miss out on.
Black Widow – 9th July
The baddest Avenger finally gets her own film! Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as the Black Widow to add some origin to her characters story. The film shows the events that take place in the life of Natasha Romanov in the time between the films Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War. The wait for another superhero blockbuster has been long enough!
Stillwater – 30th July
Stillwater is one of the films we’re most excited for this summer – after all, who doesn’t love a good Matt Damon movie? Damon’s character Bill Baker travels from Oklahoma to France to exonerate his estranged daughters from the crime which got her imprisoned in the country: murder. For years now we’ve watched as Matt Damon navigates his career in various directions and we can’t wait to see how he performs in this new role.
The Suicide Squad – 6th August
Although the 2016 film was a box office success, audiences were overall quite disappointed with the film they had waited so long to see. The new Suicide Squad movie introduces us to a different cast and different characters including Idris Elba playing Bloodsport and John Cena playing Peacekeeper. Margot Robbie however, who has been a force of female dominance in Hollywood for some time now returns to play Harley Quinn.
As we patiently wait for movie theatres to open nationwide we can take solace in the fact that one way or another we’re going to be watching some great movies this summer!
