In a series of bilateral activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan on May 21, 1951, China Film Administration and Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Beijing co-hosted the first-ever Pakistan Film Exhibition in China from Wednesday, August 4, 2021, to Saturday, August 7, 2021. The four-day film exhibition was organized by China Film Archive at China Film Archive, No.3, Wenhuiyuan Lu, Haidian District, Beijing.
A selection of five films from Pakistan, namely “Bin Roye”, “Blind Love”, “Ho Mann Jahaan”, “Motorcycle Girl” and “Punjab Nahi Jaungi” with Chinese and English subtitles was screened at the Pakistan Film Exhibition. The film exhibition commenced with a premiere of "Motorcycle Girl". The officers of the embassy, representatives of media, officials of National Radio and Television Administration, China Film Co-Production Corporation, China Film Archive and China Film Administration attended the film premiere event. Pakistan Film Exhibition concluded with a premiere of “Ho Mann Jahaan" and “Blind Love".
Tang Zhengming, an attendee from China, said: “I am really interested in Pakistani dance, and there are three song and dance movies being shown during the film festival. I want to figure out the different understanding and presentation of romance between Chinese and Pakistani movies.”
Saira Raza, an attendee from Pakistan, said: “I really love this activity and hope that more Chinese people will love Pakistani culture. In this way, the two countries can enhance cultural exchanges.”
The selection of films screened at the Pakistan Film Exhibition was envisaged as a medium for the consolidation of friendship, trust and understanding, cultural awareness, cultural exchange and co-production between China and Pakistan.
Zhang Xiaoguang, Deputy Head of the China Film Archive, said: “The movie exchanges between China and Pakistan have been playing an important role in enhancing the mutual trust and friendship between the two countries and peoples.”
Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said the film screenings will “further enhance cultural exchanges and people-to-people contact between Pakistan and China. […] It also provides a great opportunity to Pakistani filmmakers to showcase their movies in China.”
Ahmed Farooq, Deputy Head of Mission, referred to Pakistan Film Exhibition as "a new era of cooperation between Pakistan and China in the area of film and film production." In addition, he said: "We are working not only to bring Pakistani movies to the Chinese viewers but also undertake joint production with Chinese film producers."
