When fans first saw the chemistry between the British-Pakistani heartthrob and the gorgeous American-Palestinian model – that also on Zayn’s debut of his first solo song in 2016, ‘Pillowtalk’ – it was almost too much to handle. Everyone might have been heartbroken by Zayn Malik’s shocking decision to leave his One Direction bandmates in 2015; yet the addictive song, coupled with his on-screen romance with Gigi Hadid convinced many it might have been a good decision.
In November 2015, reports started circulating in the tabloids that something might be going on between the two.
By January 2016 there still wasn’t any official confirmation from the parties involved. Yet, the release of the steamy Pillowtalk video and the flirting on Twitter seemed to be enough evidence for most people.
Sherlock who? Nothing gets by these fans and paparazzi, not even that hazy image of Zayn floating on Gigi’s lock screen. And of course, having someone as your lock screen is all the confirmation anyone needs.
By April 2016, their relationship really picked up its pace. It seems that after attempting to get to know each other – somewhat privately – for the last 6 months, the two decided to step out into the limelight. This brought with it a string of adorable moments and #relationshipgoals.
First of all, they absolutely killed it at the 2016 Met Gala.
And they appear so happy in this interview they did for Vogue to confirm their relationship – while in Naples together!
All this hits a peak in September 2017, when Zayn Malik goes off with the Real Housewives alum, Yolanda Hadid, for a family vacation with Gigi’s mother. Yolanda even captured some of the more intimate and heartfelt moments for her Instagram.
In a sad spiral of events, the two called it quits in March 2018. Zayn shared an emotional statement on his Twitter to confirm the rumors.
But hold your horses! The paparazzi spotted them together again a month later in New York City. In June 2018, Zayn refused to label their relationship because it seemed too immature. Regardless, the two started resharing snippets from their relationship as they got more comfortable.
Life continued that way until January 2019, when multiple tabloids suddenly started reporting the couple’s separation. They hadn’t broken up, but they weren’t together either. Nevertheless, #Zigi gave fans a reason to celebrate for a second time, in November 2019, when rumors of them talking again circulated. In December 2019, she even uploaded an adorable snap on her Instagram of her cooking a recipe she learned from Zayn’s mother, Trisha.
After being spotted having a star-studded, intimate dinner before Zayn’s 27th birthday in January 2020, Gigi shared a photo of her valentine in February 2020…and guess who it was.
And still more adorable photos from Gigi’s quarantine birthday in April 2020 which simultaneously confirmed that the couple was also quarantining together amidst the deadly global pandemic. Ride together, die together?
It seemed so! In the same month, Gigi confirmed on national television that her and Zayn Malik are expecting their first child together. The couple and their families seemed absolutely overjoyed.
On September 23rd, 2020, after 4 long years of on-and-off dating, Zayn and Gigi welcomed their daughter, Khai.
Although the family photos were limited, since Gigi and Zayn don’t wish to share their daughter’s pictures publicly, it was clear that they were a happy family. However, it all seemed to come crashing down in October of this year. Zayn Malik was accused by Gigi’s mother, Yolanda, for physically hitting her. Reportedly, this was in reaction to her having shared their daughter’s picture on her public Instagram (although no such post can be spotted now). The incident created a rift between the couple whom we thought had finally gotten their happy ever after. They have since broken up.
UPDATE: There seem be rumours reconciliation once again.
