Ahsan Khan

Renowned actor, producer, and performer, Ahsan Khan, has recently been appointed the Goodwill Ambassador for children’s rights by the National Commission on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), in collaboration with the Huqooq-e-Pakistan (HeP) Project. The Executive Director of the HeP pointed out the impact which celebrity figures in Pakistan could have; their platforms were seen to be very powerful and effective in promoting the protection of children’s rights. Ahsan Khan has pledged to use his influence to create awareness of the vulnerability of children, particularly of those belonging to marginalized community. He was selected for his role in promoting social awareness about child abuse through the media and art.

Shehzad Roy

Famous Pakistani singer, Shehzad Roy, is known for more than his music. In 2018, Roy was awarded his second Sitara-i-Imtiaz - the third-highest civilian award in Pakistan - by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). He won the award for making substantial efforts in social work in his capacity as UNODC’s National Goodwill Ambassador. He also won the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in 2005 and the Sitara-i-Esaar in 2006 for his efforts during the 2005 Kashmir earthquake. Roy is also the founder of ‘Zindagi Trust’, an NGO which aims to improve the quality of education available to the average Pakistani citizen. He has also produced and hosted two documentary series, ‘Chal Parha’ and ‘Wasu aur Mein’ which discuss the state of public education and poverty and patriotism respectively. Finally, he uses his music as a medium for his socio-political commentary, and to bring awareness of these pressing social issues through his fanbase.

Abrar-ul-Haq

An icon of the Pakistani music industry, Abrar-ul-Haq has also established NGOs such as the ‘Sahara Trust’. The organization works tirelessly to raise awareness for better healthcare services for people in rural areas. The ‘Sanu Tere Naal’ singer also established the ‘Shughra Shafi Medical Complex’ in Narowal to alleviate the lack of basic health facilities in the area.

Shahid Afridi

Superstar cricket player during the day, dedicated philanthropist by night? Afridi’s put significant effort in setting up his NGO, the ‘Shahid Afridi Foundation’. His organization is committed to providing basic healthcare, education, and sports facilities to people in Pakistan, and beyond. It has initiated a hospital in Kohat, as well as water-well projects in Sindh and KPK. The SAF also provides scholarships to students to ensure access to education. Simultaneously, Afridi himself is also a Brand Ambassador for Polio in Pakistan, a cause which is associated with charities around the world. As a result of his social work, Shahid Afridi is amongst the top most charitable sportsmen in the world.
