The unofficial Eid dress code: a check list
Eid fashion has become the polar opposite of red carpet style: in one you try to stand out, and in the other you need to fit in. My post Eid Instagram is a blur of flowery pastel lace. Celebrity eidfies, while not identical do seem to borrow heavily from each other.
Is there an Eid dress code?
According to Instagram not following these rules is a sartorial crime. Whether you shop at perennial favorites like Nazli Akbar, Ayesha Somaya or Menahel and Mehreen or relatively new names who are just cashing in on the season of organza and fringe, you can get the look no matter your spending power
While florals may never actually be groundbreaking, head-to-toe retro-inspired flower prints are back and bolder than ever. We love Zara Shahjahan and Mahgul’s ‘more is more’ take on florals.
A bright cotton floral kurta is ideal for when you are playing hostess early in the morning. Did you see model and actress Nadia Husain sporting the style?
It’s been a good year for the gharara. Ever since Generation’s printed gharara made it cool to wear this vintage style again we have casual ghararas popping up in all shapes and form – including the gharara pant and culottes. This season is all about fun lowers – laces, bows or volume.
The classic casual gharara is a light and airy ensemble that can be worn with or a dupatta for the big family brunch. We spotted Urwa and Syra in elegant casual ghararas this Eid.
A peek-a-boo sleeve is just the thing to take your Eid look from safe to sexy. But a word of warning: proceed with caution. Statement sleeves are so easy to get wrong. If you have voluminous sleeves make sure the rest of your outfit is well-fitted to avoid looking like a hobo.
Wear this sultry style to an evening tea party with friends just like bubbly young film star Hania Amir.
It isn’t Eid if you don’t have a shimmery box clutch to collect all your Eidi in! If you are on a budget head to Khaadi for the classic pop of color or if you need more bling in your life there is alway Bottega Veneta.
Remember: after the subdues pastels of the daytime a night time dawat is all about bringing the sparkle on!
This shoulder grazing accessory is a must-have for the every self respecting fashionista. It can lift up the most simple silk kurta and is perfectly on trend.
Take your style cue from Mawra who rocked the earring for a summery day-to-night look in an Elan peplum top.
Leave the Louboutins alone. Festivities are about embracing traditional culture and dressing up in desi wear from head to toe – focus on the toes. Khussas are affordable, comfortable and easy to match with every Eid outfit. They are pretty much the footwear of our dreams. Withe brands like Soma, Mojari and Chapter 13 creating innovative styles khussas are definitely the Eid shoe to wear.
Welcome back, long kameez! We have missed you. The style has been appearing in fashion shoots and runways but this Eid the style was adopted by the mainstream fashionistas and socialites making it official: the long kameez is back.
Finally, the ultimate Eid style: pure ivories, smooth creams and sparkling whites. Dotted with gold kamdaani ala Pink Tree or blooming with Farida Hasan’s roses white is a favorite for all discerning dressers.
