FPW17 Day One: The best looks of the night
Anna Wintour proudly declared the month of September as the January of fashion in one of her interviews with the press. Little did she know, Pakistan proudly follow suit. Fashion Pakistan Week Winter edition took place in Karachi on September 12th 2017. Although, the first day majorly lacked edgy western wear that would give fashionistas chills; but it did nail the festive-bridal wear.
The following passed as my favourite picks from Day 1.
Suffuse by Sana Yasir
Mehreen Syed was nothing less than a visionary in a voluminous and glamorous bejeweled gown with swoop-back pleated twill that was cinched with a metallic belt, designed by none other than the talented Sana Yasir for her brand Suffuse. The flowy goddess gown and Mehreen poised stature proved to be an absolute head-turner.

What stood out the most in her look was how soft construction pleats were concentrated at the back of the outfit, allowing the gown to fall rumpled and loose luxury across the floor to give off regal vibes. Interestingly, Sana decided to pick out pale gold undertones to the fully embellished and ritzy bodice that made it far more elegant than the rest of the pieces in her collection.
Misha Lakhani
Staying true to her minimalistic forte, Bagh e Bahar by Misha Lakhani was a treat to watch. She bravely experimented with draped silhouettes and bold construction of color. Out of the rest, her rusty orange ghaghra choli with floral detailing intermixed with maroon velvet undertones and gota-work, single handedly stole the show.
Fauzia Aman looked nothing less than an earthy goddess, strutting down the runway in Misha’s design, where her light-netted dupatta with gold motifs swayed effortlessly on her side. Everything from her rich velvet gharara to her messy-bun and sculpted gold earrings made her look grungy yet glamorous.
Aamna Aqeel
It seemed as if Aamna Aqeel had the eye on the prize, when she opted to send down Areeba Habib down the runway looking like a model straight off the Gatsby Era! The most exquisite look of the collection was actually the one that looked eccentric and chic with its simple black and gold combo. This look displayed deep black velvet, curvaceous knee-length tunic, paired gold stripped cigarette pants and glamorized bead work of-shoulder sleeves. The attire alone managed to check off at least five top trends of the upcoming Fall/Winter!
A special mention is due, to her kundan sculpted chocker and wave-gelled hair that was made to perfection.

Saira Rizwan
As promised to deliver deep hues in textures of velvet, brocade and tissues to encapsulate the aura of a starry night titled, “Gliterati;” I would solely attribute Saira Rizwan’s clever use of 3D embellishments that breathe the life into her FPW A/W collection. There was an odd sense of rocker-chic glamour to her black attire that was smothered in gold sequin work.

It was refreshing to see Saira’s take on the gold-tissue fabric paired with velvet bodice and flapper pants that were bordered with gold-floral design. The hefty high neckline and detailed construction of the outfit made it fit for an opulent soiree – similar to the theme the rest of the designers endeavored to nail at the Day 1 of FPW2017.
