We spotted Morticia and Jessica Rabbit at Vogue Women of the Year

Vogue India’s Women of The Year 2017 awards was graced with the biggest Bollywood stars dressed to the nines. Almost all the looks mirrored an old-fashioned glamour.  A return to classic silhouettes with a nod to silver screen sirens – some of them fictional. These stars on the red carpet seemed inspired by timeless, elegant and sexy characters.

Whether the resemblance was deliberate or coincidental there was definitely something familiar about these looks.

The look: Morticia Adams

Who did it wrong – Aishwarya Rai:

We are happy Aishwarya won Vogue’s influencer of thedecade but we hope no one is influenced by this messy Morticia monstrosity (grotesque gothic geohazard). Sequins, feathers, sheer sections, a train, this gown didn’t know where to stop. The big hair and overdone eyes didn’t do this look any favors either.

Who did it right- Kriti Sanon:

Slinky and sophisticated Kriti’s cut out gown by Shivan and Narresh was a highlight of the night. Smoky eyes and perfectly waved hair provided a touch of gothic without veering into the scary.

The look: Scarlett O’Hara

Who did it right: Sonam Kapoor

Who else could channel the drama of dress made from curtains and pull it off flawlessly? It’s no wonder thatshe won the Vogue Fashion Icon of the Year award. Sonam paired the emerald strapless gown by Fouad Sarkis with bright red lips and a striking faux-bob!

Who did it wrong: Athiya Shetty

Athiya’s Sachin& Babi gown looks like it’s made up of equal parts of sheer curtains and embroidered upholstery. Her side-swept hair, and understated make-up looked nice but the dress itself was just too flouncy and frilly.

The look: Jessica Rabbit

Who did it right: Padma Lakshmi

A side slit and strategic cut outs on Padma’s  J Mendel gown, turned up the heat on the red carpet. Minimalist hair and makeup let the bold dress do all the talking.

Who ALSO did it right- Twinkle Khanna

There are no losers here. Twinkle’s more demure red gown was every bit as striking and curve flattering.Styled by, Anaita Adajania, her vintage-inspired wavy hair, glossy lip, and Charlotte Olympia clutch all went together perfectly. She won the Vogue Opinion Maker of the Year award.

The look: awards statue

Who did it right – Anushka Sharma

Sleek and statuesque, Anushka glittered in a Falguni and Shane Peacock embellished floor length mermaid gown. The Vogue Game Changer  of the Year winner wore her hair slicked back in a low ponytail with heavy smokey eyes and nude lips.

Who did it amazing – Archie Panjabi

From the waist up host and Emmy winner Archie Panjabi looks stunning. But the bottom half of her saree-gown looks like a strange meringue – at first.  It was designed by Gaurav Gupta and IBM Watson, the brand’s cognitive system. IBM Watson studied patterns, shapes, and colors of the region that the winners were from and these details were used by Gupta in the designs of the gown. It was powered by IBM IoT and lit up by LED lights and changed colors.
