HUM Showcase 2019: Highs and Lows Day 3
Coming to a close on day three, HUM Showcase 2019 ended on a high note with maestros Rizwan Beyg, Sana Safinaz and Khaadi taking the crown. While designers like Jazib Qamar and Natasha Kamal brought in sub par collections, Munib Nawaz kept things cool and Wardha Saleem presented one of her best collections yet.
Rizwan Beyg- Pearlessence
Featuring pearls, embroideries and intricate embellishments, Rizwan Beyg brought out gorgeous experimental silhouettes with his collection. Lehngas, cool jackets, relaxed cropped trousers all in cool ivory hues.
Highs: The well cut jackets and cropped trousers, that were cool yet couture in all their glory
Lows: We would have loved to see more of the casual pieces, with the cool silhouettes that stood out amongst everything else
Wardha Saleem- Jhirki
The designer brought back her signature block prints, worked onto modern silhouettes. Saaris, draped numbers, and capes went from earthy tones to Wardha’s signature hot pinks and made for a great collection.
Highs: The golds, blues and earthy hues were winners for us
Lows: Compared to the rest of the collection, showstopper Sara Khan’s outfit felt underwhelming
Munib Nawaz- Dash
Printed jackets, floral matching separates and a variety of blazers, this was menswear that was wearable and fun.
Highs: The cool overalls on Aimal Khan and the floral separates were fun while being wearable
Lows: The showstoppers kind of ruined most of the show…
Natasha Kamal- Lilium
Taking inspiration from Georgia O Keeffe’s water colour paintings, Lilium failed to offer anything impressive.
Highs: The dark purples and burgundys had potential
Lows: The generic prints and ruffled skirts were dated
Khaadi Khaas- Gypsy
Never serving anything less than excellence, Khaadi’s Gypsy drew upon Spanish flamboyance for inspiration and spun out gorgeous colours and embroideries.
Highs: The layered outfits, gorgeous black dresses, shoes and handbags all worked beautifully together
Lows: Like with their previous ‘Nomad’ collection from PSFW, the outfits lost their oomph as they transitioned from runway to rack and we hope that doesn’t happen this time!
Jazib Qamar- Khashmakash
Playing on a weave print, Jazib Qamar’s usual experimental touch did not work well here.
Highs: The opening outfit, an insect printed suit on Abeer Rizvi set high expectations
Lows: The bizarre upside down shirt, the weave print sherwanis
Sana Safinaz- Dynasty
It was delightful to see Sana Safinaz’s edgy couture side again, as compared to the gorgeous yet commercial bridals they have been focusing on lately. Prints spun into smart outfits, contrasting with statement solid coloured tops all fused together for a great finale.
Highs: The statement draped tops were our favourite part of the lineup
Lows: Some of the muted pieces felt underwhelming as compared to the whole lineup
