6 Reasons This Is The Wonder Skincare Plant: Aloe Vera
All our years growing up, we constantly hear the echoes of taking care of our skins with ‘moisturise, cleanse, exfoliate, use a night cream, use collagen based products after 30, use xyz acne gel, invest in anti ageing products..’ – Just stop for a minute. While these are all important skincare investments, there is one vital, natural product that aids us in ways no product can, and that is Aloe Vera – straight out of the plant.
Growing up, our mothers and their mothers before them always said, use aloe vera to get rid of acne, scars and eczema (& believe it or not, on the scalp to help reduce hair fall) – wonder mask or what?! Not only is it friendly for all skin types – oily, dry, combination etc, (unless you’re allergic to the plant which you don’t hear very often), it is usable every single day!
Decades later, this is that constant plant you will find several pots of at every second persons house because the benefits are endless.
Here’s are 6 reasons why we swear by it:
It naturally moisturises your skin:
Aloe moisturises the skin by keeping it hydrated. Since aloe from the plant has a high water content, you’ll want to use it as you would a skin serum application. This process also helps remove dead cells which aids in helping it breathe more. After all the make up and oils and creams we use, it needs to air out! Overdoing the usage can cause a bit of skin sensitivity so we recommend using it twice or thrice a week on skin.
It helps slow down our skins ageing process:
Aloe leaves contain a plethora of antioxidants including, beta carotene, vitamin C and E that can help improve the firmness & elasticity of skin, making it smoother and more supple, thus slowing down the process of fine lines, acting as an anti ageing tool by stimulating fibroblast which produces the collagen and elastin according to research.
Note: this does not remove wrinkles, it merely slows the process of fine lines and wrinkles from forming.
It reduces scars and stretch marks:
The skin is like one big piece of elastic that’ll expand and contract as needed to accommodate growth. But if the skin stretches too far, too fast (due to pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss) the elasticity of the skin can be damaged. That’s what leaves those unsightly stretch marks. These marks appear due to minor tears in the layers of the skin caused by sudden and excessive stretching. Aloe vera gel can help hide these stretch marks by healing these wounds.
It helps combat acne:
Aloe has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent because of the presence of gibberellins and auxins. This helps reduce your acne. It also contains polysaccharides that stimulate the growth of new cells. This speeds up the healing process for acne and prevents scarring. However, when it comes to acne, Aloe Vera works best on superficial surface acne rather than cystic or deeper acne.
It helps heal eczema & sunburns:
Application of aloe vera not only helps in reducing pain and redness but also helps in healing of the sunburnt skin. Its no wonder aloe vera is a part of these top sunburn relief creams.
It soothes irritated skin with eczema reducing the itchiness and redness. This has been used for decades to help eczema with no known reason why. It isn’t a cure, but definitely helps in improving the condition and is safe for babies and kids too!
It helps combat hair-fall and dandruff:
The natural ingredients in aloe vera help in nourishing hair roots and reducing hair fall while simultaneously combating dandruff owing to its anti-septic action. Aloe vera jelly can be massaged to scalp around 1 hour before washing your hair. Give it a few weeks and you’ll see the difference yourself!
Our verdict? After years of using this remedy, we are 100% behind it – straight from the horses mouth!
