Around The World To…. Mauritius

Islands have always held a certain level of calmness for me. Seeing the different shades of blues in the ocean, feeling the sea breeze in my hair (instantly calming me), and taking in the freshness of the air with all the greenery is something I constantly crave.
All three attributes led me to seek out travel plans to none other than the beautiful island country Mauritius.

The resort I stayed in was beautiful beyond measure! The location, service, and view at the Lux Le Morne Resort was basically the definition of heaven on earth! In front of the hotel lay the azure blue water, so clear you could see your entire body in it. And behind the hotel lay the grandiose cliff formations (you could also go on a hike on these), covered in shades of green. What more could one ask for?

The rooms in the hotel are all villas, separately spread out on the long horizontal spread of land owned by the luxurious hotel. And each evening after your room is cleaned and bed made, the staff leave decadent chocolate as a treat. Yum!

Basking in the water under a cloud-covered sky was a treat for all senses. And with a slight drizzle and peek of the sun, a rainbow was spotted during the very start of my trip. A beautiful sight indeed!

The hotel also offered a very exciting (and costly) adventure of being able to swim with dolphins in the wild! The activity begins at 6:00 am, where you are taken on a speedboat into the depths of water you would never dream of going into.
The experts with you know where the dolphins swim in abundance and find the perfect spot for you. The only drawback is that you have to be a very experienced swimmer as no life jackets are provided! You are given a pair of flippers and snorkelling gear, and off you go! It was one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had!

Mauritius is home to some of the most beautiful specimen of flora and fauna. The La Vallee Des Couleurs Nature Park is a must visit if you want to walk through exotic and tropical flowers and plants. And if you’re up for a bit of an adventure, you can go ziplining (a 1.5km long zipline!) and ride around the park on ATV’s.

The ATV ride’s route takes you into the forest-like landscape. You can stop on the way to feed and play with turtles that are over 100 years old, witness a peacock in all its glory, and take a look at the naturally 7-coloured earth.

And for those who are pure nature lovers, well, the botanical garden in Mauritius is a must-visit then! The tour lasts about three hours, and you are visually treated to some of the most beautiful plant life. The highlight for me, in this tour, was seeing the giant water lilies and beautiful lotus flowers blossoming in their midst.

Mauritius can be slightly expensive if you are staying in the north (where Le Morne beach is located), but areas such as Flic en Flac are more affordable and also offer a wide range of restaurants and leisure activities. The beaches in the north, however, are more beautiful.

This island country is a must visit for lovers of nature who want to relax, eat excellent seafood, and bask in the glory of nature’s harmony.
