Fashion Pakistan Week – Day 1 Highlights!

FPW kicked off with its winter festive event last night and the first 5 designers set off with what they think will be trends for the upcoming winter season. We’ve broken down who inspired us, who didn’t and who saved the day with a majestic collection!

La Vie En Rose by Al Karam

FPW opened with a gorgeous collection by Al Karam! While it was reminiscent of Sana Safinaz meets Moschino, it was well curated in terms of finishing and colours used. We can see this doing well with the masses in terms of appreciation, and a lot of buyers ooh-ing and aah-ing for the ruffled dresses and cute tops!

Al Karam also catered to the eastern wear line for kids and men alike too and we thought the models were super cute and confidant!

Boheme by Kanwal

This collection was inspired by Sindhi techniques but while the embroideries, colour combinations and styling were both on point, the collection in itself fell short for us. We didn’t see anything new or different. Usually boheme inspires us, this time, we were left searching for inspiration.

Gogi By Hasan Riaz

This collection would make sense if this was costume design or thematic of My Fair Lady meets crepe paper – Don’t get us wrong, it wasn’t a bad collection, but this was applicable to a niche market and while we appreciate risks. But quite a few people are asking, will this risk make sales?

Yasmin Zaman

The only designer who used the rich winter fabric, velvet, was Yasmin Zaman. From deep olives to maroons, we saw simplistic cuts and minimal embroidery with of course more silhouettes in other fabrics. We personally expected more from Yasmin, but looking back at the collection, it’s perfect for the upcoming season, if you’re a guest attending winter soiree’s or friends’ and relatives’ events and closed with a sweetheart of the masses, Sarwat Gilani!

Ayesha Farook Hashwani

AFH closed day 1 with a BANG! From the soundtrack of old school remixes, to age old, timeless silhouettes, we liked every single look! We’re not joking! Staying true to her aesthetic, the jewelled, satin silk kaftans, jumpsuits and harem pants inspired pants had us floored and we literally made mental notes of which looks we actually want to go order now! Basically, she saved the night with a glorious collection.
