The Golden Globes 2020 Round Up!
At an awards show where Brad Pitt gave Leonardo Dicaprio a brand new nickname, of course we were paying attention!
"I also have to thank my partner in crime, LDC," Pitt said. "I used to watch, year after year, his costars accept awards and get up and thank him profusely. I know why. He's an all-star, he's a gent — and I wouldn't be here without you, man. Thank you."
And of course Tom Hanks being awarded the Cecil. B DeMille award and tearing up during his acceptance speech!
You know us, readers, we wait for these awards to see the worst and best dressed so we can tell you how we feel! Well here goes…
Jennifer Lopez
We usually count on her wow factor at such events but Ms Lopez was honestly such a let down in this Valentino gown. Last year, every appearance made was bang! bang! bang! This, on the hand… was not even a ba-!
Cate Blanchette
We personally loved this daring cut-out plisse and rhinestone, lemon yellow number (read that one more time) in Mary Katrantzou. We don’t care what others say, she took a risk – and triumphed.
ZOË KRAVITZ
Saint Laurent polka dots are nothing short of chic! Jumbo polka dots are now on our list of things to invest in. A wearable look on the red carpet is all we are looking for this year. Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE the drama a gown brings, but honestly, t’s not a look for all. We especially love the deep red lip and Lorraine Schwartz earrings!
CHARLIZE THERON
Dior gave the Grecian-style gown a weird name, and even though this was custom-made for Charlize to “try out fun new things” as per her stylist, we think she should have gone another way!
Jennifer Aniston
A casual breezy gown which made heads turn was all donned super well on Aniston. Dior’s gown paired with Fred Leighton jewels kept it simple yet classy!
MARGOT ROBBIE
Red carpet wearable looks seemed to be part of the theme alongside gowns this year – and of course, we loved it! This Chanel couture look is something every reader can relate to and every stylista will want in her closet!
REESE WITHERSPOON
Clean, classic cuts on a petite woman always, always make her look slender and tall – Reese nailed this look in Roland Mouret! We love the slicked back lob too!
RACHEL WEISZ IN TOM FORD
We love a gown that doesn’t give drama all the time and that is where Tom Ford delivered. A seek cut that you can see trickle down into high street stores for us regular joes to wear is exactly what Rachel wore to the Golden Globes.
BILLY PORTER
This is one man we actually wait for every award show and event to see how creative his dressing gets! We love us a train and this entire Alex Vinash look is something we want, too!
BRAD PITT
Brioni is a name linked to anything suave and who better to represent it than the heart throb, Brad Pitt? If we didn’t know better, he looks like he was born in this look! Insert heart eyed emoji here!
NICOLE KIDMAN
A tomato red princess Versace dress with a train and simplistic jewellery is perfect for Nicole. Keeping it clean, classy – but – safe!
GWYNETH PALTROW
We never thought we would loathe a look by Fendi so much, until today. Sorry Gwyn.. we’ll pass.
LEONARDO DICAPRIO
The man, the myth, the legend. Actually, he’s not a myth. He’s factually a great actor, humanitarian and Giorgio Armani shone because he wore them!
JOAQUIN PHOENIX
Golden globe winner for the movie Joker made his suave look by Stella McCartney look cool by throwing on some shades.
TOM HANKS
America’s favourite dad (and ours too, just by the way!) always looks the part! We were thrilled to see him honoured in the show too!
TAYLOR SWIFT
Normally, we aren’t fans of Swift but she really made us stop and star. We love the printed Etro gown and how she looked in it – so grown up!
SOFIA VERGARA
Sofia stunned in Dolce & Gabbana staying true to a silhouette that she can pull off best and ran with it. Also, that dull berry color is just (insert heart eyes here)
KAITLYN DEVER
Last but definitely not least, our FAVOURITE look of all was this Valentino floral gown. The perfect cut, the perfect colours and carried off SO well. This is the winner, ladies & gentlemen… Hand Kaitlyn an award just for looking amazing and getting her look down to a T!
Moments we loved most about the golden globes
They had a vegan menu in lieu of the climate change problem which everyone is taking into account – so much so, Joaquin Phoenix also gave a shout out to this change in his acceptance speech!
WHAT WAS ON THE VEGAN MENU?
The menu included an appetiser of chilled golden beet soup with locally grown chervil and amaranth, king oyster mushrooms cooked and presented to call to mind scallops for the main dish, with wild mushroom risotto, roasted baby purple and green Brussels sprouts, globe carrots and pea tendrils.
