A Vegetarian Week Before Eid

We all know with Eid UL Adha coming up there will be an abundance of mutton and beef to go around. Although some of us may already be opting for a more green way of life, the general say-so for meat in Pakistan is pretty clear.

Meat-free days are already a known practice by some, with people disclosing just how one day dedicated to no meat can prove countless health and lifestyle benefits. Not only does one day give your body a rest but, everything in moderation has a more fruitful result.

With Eid UL Adha, popularly known as 'Bakra Eid' coming up, we're already in for a meaty occasion, so we might as well give our tummies and digestive system a little break before indulging!

Weight-loss

More veggies in your diet and an absence of meat can do wonders for your weight, with less calories and fats being consumed. When switching to alternatives which provide the same nutritional value as meat, we can seek out protein, fiber, healthy carbs etc from sources which do not increase our weight or 'bloating' which can also contribute to making us look 'puffier'.

Gives your wallet a break

At this point after knowledge or fair share of experience in the market, we know how meat can be costly to buy by the KGs. A cheaper alternative to your spending could be substituting meat with meat supplements. Tofu, available at Paradise Store in Karachi, along with veggies high in protein such as spinach, broccoli, chickpeas, lentils and even dried fruits for snacking can be way more beneficial for your health and less taxing on your income.

Mood booster

Not only does a slimmer waist and anti-puff trick do wonders for your self-esteem, but it's proved that having a diet which consists of incorporating more fruits, veggies, alternate sources of protein and taking a break from meat boosts your mood. A healthy life is a happy life!

Better Health!Oxidative stress is another issue we face when our plant-intake is too less. It damages our cells overtime which is why our body produces anti-oxidants. A plan-based diet includes less oxidative stress and more health benefits for our liver, cardio-vascular system and cholesterol levels.

Not only is a break from meat physically enriching but mentally as well, a few weeks of trying a more veg-friendly diet and taking a break from meat can help us see significant changes in our mental state as well.

A healthier environment

Less meat consumption goes a long way, going as far as helping the environment and climate. More meat consumption is one of the leading causes of climate change and abroad, environmental groups and celebrities have advocated to reduce the consumption of meat or the world will see the worst effects of environmental decline.

Before we begin our festive mutton chops consumption and barbecue, we can try to reduce our intake of meat for a whole week and see how our body feels. Not only will a break be a much needed detox but the feeling of less fullness and more energy can make the holiday a whole lot better!

Plus, the added advantage of looking better for those lovely Eid snaps!
