To honour our freedom on the 14th of August, 1947 73 years ago, we have put together a list of shows about the partition, hoping to bring justice to our brave ancestors who fought for the country we call home.
Dastaan
Hassaim Hussain's brilliant directorial 'Dastaan' was one of a kind. Written into play by Sameera Fazl, this epic features Sanam Baloch, Fawad Khan, Ahsan Khan, Saba Qamar Zaman, Samina Peerzada, Mehreen Raheal and Abdul-Qavi Khan. The play is based on true events of the deadly 1947 partition, including the Pakistan Movement itself and how it tore apart a family.
The HUM TV drama is a must watch as it does not only depict the bloody chronicles of our ancestors but presents a captivating drama serial which does justice to the day!
Jinnah se Quaid
What better way to honour our freedom day than to watch the life of our founder, the Father of the Nation, Quaid e Azam. This PTV drama, starring Sheheryar Jahangir and Zainab Ansari, was directed by Mohsin Ali, is based on the life and events of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his struggles, experiences and strife which all led to the creation of Pakistan.
A glimpse into the life of the visionary genius, this drama is not only insightful but a treat to see on screen, giving viewers of all ages a perspective into different aspects of Quaid e Azam's personality and ability as a leader.
Aangan
Based on Khadija Mastoor's award winning novel, Aangan is a period drama, written into playwright by Mustafa Afridi and directed by Muhammad Ehteshamuddin, starring Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir, Mawra Hocane, Ahsan Khan and Sonya Hussyn. The production quality really made this HUM TV drama stand out, with art direction, costume and a feel from the 1940s.
With powerful performances, thought provoking dialogue and a moving story, this drama has become popular till this day, taking us all back in time while presenting a very significant story. The tale, narrated by Mawra Hocane, portrays the plight of a Muslim family living in India,
Partition Stories PTV - Gurmukh Singh Ki Wasiyat
Manto's 'Gurmukh Singh Ki Wasiyat' is a heartbreaking tale, wonderfully told under Ehteshamuddin's meticulous direction and Musadiq Sanwal's original soundtrack medley. The telefilm elicits an emotional response from the audience with Munawwar Saeed as the elderly Gurmukh Singh and Aamina Sheikh as the youthful Sughra.
