Marvel's Latest Pakistani-American Superhero: Kamala Khan!
Imaan Vellani, who hails from Canada is set to star as 16 year old Kamala Khan, also known as 'Ms. Marvel' in the upcoming Disney+ series!
18 year old Vellani will play the Pakistani-American character created by G. Willow Wilson and drawn by Adrian Alphona, who looks up to Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel herself. Marvel Studios have elected to rope in Oscar winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, along with Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah and Meera Memon.
‘Ms. Marvel’ will be set in Kamala's hometown, New Jersey. The show will feature cultural differences and adaptations, making it more relatable to a vaster audience. The story centres around Kamala’s teenage life and how her powers come into being. These powers, such as elasticity, invulnerability and shapeshifting allow her to fight bad, following in the footsteps of Captain Marvel.
According to Kevin Fiege, the President of Marvel, Vellani will also reportedly go on to star in future MCU movies. While speaking to CBC in 2019, Vellani discussed a more diverse representation in marvel films.
“We want stories from different genders and different countries and different people. I think that’s really important because then people are going to understand each other. Even if they can’t relate to it, you learn from it … Our big goal is to just help people understand other perspectives.”
Pakistani fans of the Marvel Franchise are booming with excitement and intrigue over the latest news announced by MCU.
Celebrities express their glee at how they feel about seeing more relatable representation in further adaptations, congratulating Vellani on her latest venture.
