What's Happening on International Day of the Girl?

The International Day of the Girl Child is soon to come up later this week and with that it brings us to a necessary yet unfortunate discussion as to why 130 million girls around the world still do not have fair access to education.

On October 11th Sunday, Princess Harry and Megan Markle will have a conversation with Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai about the importance of a girls right to fair education, marking the Day of the Girl Child.

This chat will be accessible on virtual platforms, online on YouTube as well as on the Malala Fund’s social media channels. Malala has been one of the most influential and loudest voices for young women, advocating for girls' rights to a fair education since 2012.

This conversation will bring to light different problems and barriers that girls around the globe face, for some places in mostly third world countries, many girls are forced into child marriage, having their livelihood and future snatched from the; and in other parts of the world girls are forced to begin working from a young age, not giving her time for an education or a childhood.

Malala also spoke to former First Lady Michelle Obama, about girls' rights to education, both champions for the cause held the discussion to mark the International Day of the Girl, conversing about the future of girls' education and creating a better world post COVID-19.

Hopefully this discussion will open many doors and can gradually prompt a development of more empathy as well as a better understanding for people as to why it is so important for every human being to receive an education.

Keep the date set in your calendars and share!
