Social Media Prevails as the 'TikTok' Ban is Overturned
As of late, last week the ban on social media streaming application 'TikTok' was implemented, with the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) stating that the inappropriate and immoral content on the app was against the norms of the nation.
In a thread on social media platform Twitter, the PTA official page took to explain the actions which caused the reversal of the ban against the video-sharing application. On their platform they wrote on how the ban was overturned if certain conditions were met,
"The restoration of TikTok is strictly subject to the condition that the platform will not be used for spread of vulgarity/indecent content & societal values will not be abused. PTA will be constrained to permanently block the application incase said condition is not fulfilled."
The PTA continued to address the incoming news by stating that if TikTok continued to oblige and comply by the laws set in place and monitor its content, there would be no need for a further banning of the application. According to a spokesperson from TikTok, the team has been in contact with the PTA and government, answering the relevant questions about their moderation process.
“TikTok’s mission is to inspire creativity and joy, and that's just what we've done in Pakistan. We've built a community whose creativity and passion has brought joy to households across Pakistan and opened vital economic opportunities to incredibly talented creators,”
TikTok users and enthusiasts can rest easy for now as the service seems to be abiding by the appropriate regulatory procedures set out by the authorities.
