Pakistan Plans on Launching Pakistani Version of Netflix

The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has announced that Pakistan is planning to launch its own version of a streaming platform akin to Netflix.

Netflix being one of the most popular platforms that allows you to stream a vast library of films, series and documentaries has no doubt a great deal of influence on the rest of the world. Since the world has slowly moved away from print media with everything becoming more and more digital, it is also slowly moving away from satellite television.

Pakistan plans on launching its own version of Netflix once it has been approved by PEMRA. Federal Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry stated that, “We have asked PEMRA to prepare a guideline on content and we will be all set to launch in PPP (public private partnership) mode,” he added that it will be “another humble contribution” by his ministry to the country.

Fawad Chaudhry also deemed this Pakistan's first over the top television also known as 'OTT'. OTT is commonly known for its online streaming service which is directly offered to consumers via the internet. This decision of having a Pakistani version of Netflix has been hailed by celebrities such as Waar's Shaan and Humayun Saeed. The Mere Pass Tum Ho Star also expressed his delight regarding the news,

"This is such great news! Thank you, Fawad Chaudhry and Ministry of Science and Technology for this much-needed initiative. It will open doors of opportunities for many many talented people and eventually help Pakistan reach a truly global audience."

It seems that Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry has high hopes of this new launch and has Pakistani’s high on expectations. Wait for the release and find out for yourself!
