Trend Alert: Lipsticks for Winter

We often differentiate between 'summer colours' and 'wintery tones', along with the seasons in between. But, with the weather change, our daily make up tends to change as well, leaving behind more softer, tropical colours for a stark contrast to go with our layered-look.

Rouge Up

Reds define the winter season, whether it be for a day at the office or a night on the town, this colour doesn't let you down. During the chilly days, warmer tones are more appreciated, with a pop of fiery red awakening the whole look. If you want to keep it simple, a red lip does the trick by brightening up your complexion and achieving the desired chic for the season.

Fuchsia Pink

We usually tend to prefer corals in certain seasons, and although it may not be the most popular go-to, fuchsia pink is a vibrant trend welcomed in winter, as it provides a statement makeup staple with its bright and energetic quality. We tend to move towards a more matte-moist or glossier texture in the colder season due to dry skin and dry lips (which we must avoid at all costs!), therefore, fuchsia pink gives you a youthful glow, especially when paired with your highlight, and energetic buzz for a day out!

Chocolate Brown

Mocha or latte, browns are all the fad but sadly we don't get to try them out much during the warmer seasons. Fortunately, the winter gives an excuse to truly enjoy the browner tones, with chocolate brown being the ideal colour of the moment, giving you the bold intensity along with an effortless chic to go along with your outfit. With a colour as rich as chocolate, a glossy texture does the trick in accentuating your features with a sharper look for the season.

Neutrals & Nude Shades

A style staple for all seasons, you cannot go wrong with a nude shade, whether it be for a day time look or a night out. With the subtle finesse of a 'no-lipstick-look', a nude gives you leeway to play with other makeup such as eyeshadow, blush on, contour and highlight. The beauty of keeping it 'neutral' means that your look is both effortless and eternal in any season, but the cold weather permits us to take it up a notch with our smokey-eye when keeping our lipstick a little low-key!

Mauve

Say hello to mauve, a glossy tint of this colour will instantly soften up your look if you want to keep it a little luminous. With a mauve tinge to your look, you can experiment with kohl under your eyes as well as with the cate-eye look, all the while making sure it has softness around the edges. Mauve is not a bright colour as such but it brings out a graceful quality which is accentuated in winter.

Ox-Blood Red & Other Dark Shades

Winter means we get to play with all our dark shades we can't go near in the summertime. With ox-blood red, maroon, burgundy and other shades coinciding with the season, we get to spice up our frosty look. Deep reds and browns go with the icy cold because they are warmer colours and tend to be more expressive when elected at the right time. By applying these darker tones December onwards, we get to elaborate on our statement glam, and can choose to spend less time on eye makeup too if we want!

Orange

Although it is citrus season with the influx of oranges and tangerines, the lipsticks come in stock too, being a perfect colour for the season by brightening up our look, similar to fuchsia! Orange brings a bubbly quality to the look, allowing a mixture of heavy glam or makeup for a day out by simply being zestful and full of energy, instantaneously brightening up our face. We can even opt to add a little blush for a more natural glow.

With a few colours being in for the winter season, we can continue experimenting with two-tones and different unorthodox makeup staples which we enjoy wearing with our jackets and jumpers. Who knows what the new trends emerging in 2021 will be!
