Pierre Cardin: Fashion Pioneer Behind PIA Uniform Passes Away

Today we recount the contribution French-Italian designer, Pierre Cardin made to Pakistani fashion. Having designed the Pakistan International Airlines uniform in 1966, his ideas were used till 1975, making them a national style staple in the 60s and 70s.

With a modern take on a traditional look, the prolific couturier concocted the timeless, stylish outfits for the cabin crew in the 60s, with the A-line tunic and slim, straight cut trousers becoming increasingly popular. Giving a new meaning to the term 'flying with style', Cardin's minimalistic yet classy designs were an instantaneous hit, becoming iconic for vintage and retro fashion.

Usually known for his experimental and futuristic designs, the avant-garde fashion connoisseur was famous for trying out new ideas on different products, making him a visionary due to his creativity and mentorship of other designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier.

With the detail of the molded scarf on the head, the look has been remodeled time and time again in Pakistan, standing out for its classy appeal, credited to the renowned designer.
