Frankly, the finishing line for ‘normal’ keeps changing these days. Even though, we seem to be well into the third wave of the pandemic, masks and distancing seem to be optional rather than mandatory in most places. The new strain is far more viral and vaccines are only available for those over 60. As the government begins modified versions of the lockdown, we as citizens seem to be flouting the rules over and over again. It is time to revert to the old, new normal – this time last year, we were locked up, masked up and distancing for miles. Here’s a reminder of how we actually did it:
Mask-up
There is no reason for the mask to be hanging around your neck or your ear. Cover your nose and face at all times. If you are wearing a cute cloth mask, wear a surgical one under it. Do not wear masks with filters in them, they only protect you and not others around you. If you are already infected and wearing a filter mask, you can still infect others around you. Also, try not to touch your mask too much.
Distance, distance, DISTANCE
The selfies can wait. That trip to the mall can be kept for a less busy time. You can also choose to distance at home, as well. Avoid physical contact, like hugging or shaking hands. Elbows are the new hugs.
Shop Online
Remember when we were ordering everything online? Let’s just go back to that. Everything from groceries to designer wear can be delivered to your house. So, why get caught up in the hassle of parking, crowds and well, contracting the virus.
Work-From-Home
Remember, the Government has asked companies to implement the 50% staff rule. Now remind your employer. If the nature of your work allows, do your best to work from home instead. This is particularly important if you have vulnerable family members.
Last but not least, WASH YOUR HANDS! Nothing beats the good old fashioned soap and water and where that is not available, then sanitize.
