4 Places to Experience Snowfall in Pakistan That Aren’t Murree

Winter wonderland options to consider this winter.

Edition Pakistan · 8 November 2021

Pakistan has many holiday destinations in the more northern mountainous areas of the country and the one we’re all familiar with is Murrree! Just thinking about Murree now invokes memories from our childhood of beautiful snow coloured landscapes and garam garam channas and chai. In recent years though, many areas much further away from Islamabad have become increasingly popular for tourism as well.

So here we are sharing with you, a list of four other well known and visited areas to experience snowfall in Pakistan if you’re trying not to get caught in the overcrowded and now partially overdeveloped Murree.

Kalash Valleys

The Kalasha Valleys are valleys in the Chitral area in Pakistan. The valleys are surrounded by the Hindu Kush mountain range. The inhabitants of the valley are the Kalash people, who have a unique culture, language and follow a form of ancient Hinduism

Malam Jabba

Malam Jabba is a Hill Station and ski resort in the Hindu Kush mountain range nearly 40 km from Saidu Sharif in Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. The Malam Jabba Ski Resort, owned by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, had a ski slope of about 800m with the highest point of the slope 2804 m above sea level!

Kaghan Valley

The Kaghan Valley is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan and borders the Pakistani-administered territories of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to the north and east, respectively. The 155-kilometre-long valley is enveloped by the Lower Himalayan mountain range, resulting in an alpine climate and the prevalence of pine forests and alpine meadows.

Hunza Valley

Hunza (is a mountainous valley in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. Hunza is situated at the bank of Hunza river in the northern part of Gilgit-Baltistan and shares borders with both Afghanistan and China. Hunza is one of the most exotic places in Pakistan. Several high peaks rise above 7,000 m in the surroundings of Hunza Valley. The valley provides views of several mountains, including the Bojahagur Duanasir II and Bublimating (Ladyfinger Peak).

Majority of Northern Pakistan carries a dreamy, fairytale-esque feel and we can guarantee you that these particular spots for snowfall and winter time activities will surely make you feel like you have been transported somewhere truly magical.
