The final day of Made in Pakistan proved to be a creative wild card with the next generation of fashion proving that we have much to look forward to.

The ten unique collections showcased by students from local fashion and art schools as part of ‘Millennial Fashion’ were diverse in concept and execution. While some pieces took the avantgarde a step too far these young designers stood out with their edgy yet elegant designs.

‘MONOTONY – A Break’ by Zainab Khalid

A wardrobe worthy of any socialite headed to the Riviera, Zainab Khalid’s brilliantly combined a classic nautical palette with straight lines and bold prints to create a cohesive collection that brings to mind sunsets on a yacht.

FLUX by Salman Javed

In an age of fast fashion and bridal couture it is rare to see local designers experiment with form as Salman Javed did with his unusual, and occasionally bumpy collection Flux. Though not wearable the muted, structured creations were thought provoking and occasionally breath-taking.

BROKEN SOULS by Sobia Halar

Art, fashion and politics met in Sobia Halar’s stirring  collection inspired by child labour. Each piece made a powerful statement – from the smiling face of a young child digitally printed on a sparkling embossed mini skirt to a black ball gown and cape that was revealed to be a poster against child exploitation.

SASTRE BY Shahmeer Ansari

Fun menswear is few and far between, making the Saatre collection a welcome sight. Though pieces were hit and miss (not a fan of those patchwork trousers) the overall aesthetic was mature and we are looking forward to seeing what Shahmeer will be creating in years to come.
