A Very Karachi Christmas

Christmas returns to Karachi with The Karachi Christmas Market

Edition Pakistan · 16 December 2021

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and certainly so in Karachi. As the sweltering summer dies down and the sea breeze brings a chill to the air, Karachi takes on a festive air – weddings, parties and of course Christmas. Given the almost two year long pandemic, we lost last Christmas to The Grinch that is/was Covid-19. But as vaccination numbers swell, we are slowly but surely getting back on track. As a sense of normalcy returns, so have the traditional melas, bazaars and markets of Karachi. And the one we’re most looking forward to is…..drum roll The Karachi Christmas Market!

The Karachi Christmas Market is taking place this Saturday 18th December from 11 am to 8 pm. It is organised by Media Republic and the venue is PACC. We love the sights, sounds and flavours of Christmas, especially with that special Karachi-ness to it.   We picked out all the things we’re looking forward to indulging in this Saturday.

Do Some Good Deeds

Good times will roll but so should good deeds. NGOs working to make a different to the lives of Karachiites will be at event selling a range of creative products for you to choose from.

White Elephant by Karachi Cares

A treasure trove of pre-loved books, trinkets, clothes, decor items and much more at throwaway prices will be there for you to rummage through. They will be selling hot and cold drinks. All profits will go towards providing better nutrition in under-served communities.

Al Shifa Trust

The Al Shifa Trust runs the Al-Shifa School School for Special Children. They will be bringing the wonderful artwork of their students, including painted, recycled bottles, hand made jewelry and more.

Kiran Foundation

Handicrafts made by The Kiran Foundation’s Artisan Moms project will be up for grabs!

Eat Some Great Food

Hands down our favorite thing to do! EAT! And there’s some great options at The Karachi Christmas Market.

Chips & Dips

Fries, fries and even more dips! The colourful, delicious dips by Chips & Dips are great to stock up for the festive season. We recommend the Rainbow Fries.

Asooda Foods

What’s a market without some chatpata chaat? The mother-daughter duo behind Asooda foods will be serving up home made chaat and dahi baaray, along with an array of chutneys to take home too

Oishii Desu

Dumplings are all the rage these days in Karachi and the Oishii Desu team will be bringing fresh dumplings, gyoza, soup and noodles.

Delicacies

Can’t have a Christmas Market without some Christmas Cake! Traditional Christmas cake, coconut candy, caramel fudge and much more.

Zaffron’s Fantasies

Hot dogs, bun kabab sliders, paratha rolls and our favorite cheese balls!

We love their variety of beautiful veggies but at The Karachi Christmas Market, they are also bringing a range of salads if you are looking for some healthy indulgence.

Aakhri Staap by YummyMummyAndMe

Your quintessential chai, coffee and drinks stop. They will be donating all their profits towards Karachi Cares and Al-Shifa School for Special Children. So make sure you get a drink or five from them!

Have Some Fun!

Santa’s Workshop will give you the chance to make your own Christmas ornaments. You can also make song dedications for just Rs 50. The kids can also take part in the Christmas Parade for a registration fee of Rs 100 to win exciting prizes. There’s also a couple more surprises we’ve been told. And if you are shopping buff like us, check out our Christmas Gift Guide, right here.

The Karachi Christmas Market is taking place on Saturday 18th December from 11 am to 8 pm at PACC, Karachi (near Cantt). Masks and vaccination cards are mandatory. See you there!
