Editor’s Picks: Weekend Edition

Our recommendations for what-to-do this weekend - 9th to 11th April.

Edition Pakistan · 9 April 2021

‘Twas the weekend before Ramzan. Yup, this is the last weekend before Ramzan. And normally, I would tell you to live it up, party on etc. However, this is not time for it. As I write this, CoVID-19 positivity rates in major Pakistani cities range from 23% to 8% – with Lahore and Peshawar leading the ‘race.’ This weekend – buy your groceries, do your Netflix research and gear up for a testing Ramzan.

Eat:

I chanced upon one of the best Chicken Pot Pies I have EVER had at Green Bean Farmers’ Market. Made by a small home based business called ‘You’ve Been Served,’ they are fairly new. The pastry was super fresh and crisp and the filling was just to die for! They are on Facebook over here. Also ask for their ginger biscuits.

Also giving the readers one of my essential Ramzan recipes – my take on the Turkish Lentil Soup. It is nutritious, low calorie and fulfilling. Find it here.

Do:

With Ramzan being a month for reflection and mindfulness, you may want to start slowing down and taking more time for yourself. Might be a good idea to finish off any pending tasks before the start of Ramzan. Get yourself a nice journal and set yourself 3 to 5 tasks you may want to accomplish each day, such as, reading the Quran, offering additional prayers, helping someone each day, working out and so on. Track your progress and write a short reflection at the end of each day. It will do wonders for your personal growth. Try it!

Buy:

Get your Eid shopping done online. And order as soon as you can because we know how everything slows down in Ramzan (including ourselves). And if you are buying unstitched, then you should have done your Eid shopping yesterday.

For the gents, Sonya Battla does a limited range of really simple but well cut shalwar kameez in traditional, solid colors. The brand does a classic design, which makes it a wardrobe staple for every gentleman. There is a limited number she does every year, so make sure you get one from their online store.

Ah ladies, so many choices! But it might be worth doing something Pantone Color(s) of the Year related – Illuminating (Yellow) and Ultimate Grey. I picked out some outfits in the two colors to help you decide. Grey being my least favorite color, I have some lovely yellows for you instead.
