Netflix’s famous high-school teen bop series is to be renewed for its 7th and final season on the streaming service Netflix. While current details are hazy, we are told by Netflix to expect the series finale sometime in 2023.
The writer and co-producer of the show, Ted Sullivan used his Instagram account to inform fans of the show this update. He posted a photo of the slate covering most of the frame that showcases the first shot of the final season. In his caption, Sullivan wrote that such a great season would be heading soon to viewers. He also thanked the show’s creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa for his work and dedication in leading to this point. Although plot details of the upcoming season are still a secret, Aguirre-Sacasa only revealed that the premiere episode will be titled “Don’t Worry, Darling.”
The first season of Riverdale premiered in 2017 and since then, the show has risen immensely in popularity and oftentimes, is accused of developing a cult-like fan following. Fans of Riverdale are in fact heavily addicted to the troublesome teens Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Archie as they all set out into a world full of mystery, family, betrayal and love. This series, inspired by the decades-old Archie comics diverts from the basic feel-good nature of the main comic series and instead focuses on a group of high-school teenagers dealing with a lot while they solve a murder mystery that sends the town reeling and catapulted the rest of the series’ major plotlines, even those of them which leave your head all warped. The series became so popular, not only among the viewers but also the non-viewers, as the show has wild plot lines, including a D&D style game that later turned malicious, annual musical episodes, a Marvel-like multiverse and so much more.
While we don’t know much about the upcoming final season of Riverdale, we can surely say that like its predecessors, this season will be filled with a lot of drama and action, while hopefully addressing the many untied loose ends that the series is no stranger to.
