Ever since the pandemic hit the world, it did not only pose a direct concern to the business community but also affect individuals including children and parents. One stark impact that the world witnessed in the face of a global pandemic is the decline in mental health. This, in turn, changed the parenting patterns among individuals and we could see a wide majority of people exhausted, worried, or too done with the protocols of this widespread disease.
As much as it is normal to feel worried and overwhelmed, we can take charge of our behaviors and take this pandemic as a means to strengthen our relationship with children and teenagers. School shutdowns, remote working, physical distancing, and minimum social life, there is no denying that pandemic parenting is tough under these circumstances. However, with a composed mindset we can take little steps towards improving how we react to the consequences of a mentally-exhausting disease.
In this article, we will walk you through some of the effective parenting tips that could help you manage this new normal.

Spend Time With Your Children
Children feel loved and important when you give them quality time. This pandemic could be an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with your kids. It does not cost you anything and comes for free. But the outcomes of sitting down with your children and spending time with them are promising.
You can play their favorite indoor games or bring a long-lost toy that your kid got on his birthday. It could be as simple as singing together, storytelling, or reading a book. The idea is to stay close to them, give them full attention and gain their confidence. Remember: spending time with your kids and teenagers is a privilege, exercise it wisely!
Keep an Optimistic Approach
It is difficult to stay positive during the uncertain times that COVID has brought. We are most likely to get overwhelmed and drained. But children are calmer and behave better when they receive positive instructions and appreciation from parents.
If you want them to behave positively then you must deliver the same. Tell them what to do using positive words. Scolding them or screaming endlessly about every mistake will make them sad and distressed. Speak to them in a calm voice and keep your words positive.
Value Small Moments
Small moments take the most heartwarming space in our life. In this pandemic, you can take a moment to slow down and value all small instances that you had been avoiding otherwise due to your work commitments. When you show up for your children and be present during their happy moments, that is the most reassuring feeling. Children appreciate when we volunteer for their small or big events with our small gestures and dedicated presence.

Practice Soft Skills: Empathy
Regardless of their age, children teach us some of the best soft skills during parenting. This includes being empathetic at times when everything else seems to be falling apart. When you are nurturing your kids during these strange pandemic times, you gradually learn that this too shall pass. Soon things will be back to normal and you will enjoy being around your children.
It’s challenging to raise and nurture kids during a pandemic but by practicing empathy we can be grateful and much more relieved.
Develop New Hobbies and Routine
COVID-19 has toughened our school, office, and home routines but one key takeaway of this pandemic year has been hobbies. Trying out new activities with children helps us stay sane during Zoom meetings and work calls. When you engage with kids while baking, painting, gardening, and cycling, you will feel a certain sense of fulfillment and joy. Your kids will enjoy the process too.
